Introduction

ChineseOn.net is dedicated to providing an effective online toolset for those who wish to learn the Chinese language. Our proven course materials allow a student--starting at any level--to become an accomplished speaker, writer and reader of Chinese. With only 18 months of supported study, ChineseOn.net prepares students with the understanding necessary to take the National Chinese Proficiency Test (HSK), a program sponsored by China's Ministry of Education.

Courses

ChineseOn.net currently offers three different online courses, each serving a unique purpose in building a student's complete understanding of the Chinese language.

Standard Chinese - A student's main source of instruction, Standard Chinese provides a comprehensive, sequential curriculum of Chinese lessons. Each lesson features a dialog, story, fable or poem that introduces new words, grammar and phrases. Each lesson is accompanied with exercises and tests to help strengthen a student's understanding of the new material.

1. View the Pinyin of a Chinese character by hovering over it. For beginners, earlier lessons feature the Pinyin already written above the word.
2. All Chinese text is accompanied with a professional recording. Simply click on the speaker icon to hear it read.
3. All Chinese text is translated into English. Practice your comprehension skills by trying to interpret the text first, then hovering over the English label to view its translation.
4. All courses include relevant exercises and quizzes for you to practice your comprehension.
5. Every page contains a convenient Word Lookup feature for finding definitions, calligraphy and PinYin of any Chinese word.*
6. (Not Pictured) All courses highlight "new words" introduced in the lesson. Links to a new word's calligraphy, definition, and Pinyin, is accessible directly from the Lesson page. Exercises and tests are also designed to emphasize newly introduced words.
Chinese - Chinese is a course designed primarily for vocabulary building and language comprehension. Written by professors at Jinan University, Chinese aims to quickly and effectively build a student's vocabulary of standard Chinese; the lessons start with rudimentary Chinese words and slowly progresses onto full academic Chinese texts.
Daily Dialog - In order to master spoken Chinese, ChineseOn.net has designed this course for students of all levels to begin practicing their Chinese orally. Using the dialog of common, every day conversation, Daily Dialog hopes to equip students with the means to effectively communicate in Chinese. *

Common to all courses are English translations of all material and spoken Chinese recordings of all readings.

Support

While our course material is designed to supplement an ongoing study, we understand that not everyone has the time or the resources to receive professional instruction of the Chinese language. So, for students without a professional sponsor, ChineseOn.net provides e-mail support regarding nearly every aspect of the Chinese language. Students may simply log in and submit their queries, and a response will be replied to them as quickly as possible. Students may submit however many questions they need, so long as it pertains to the Chinese language or ChineseOn.net service. Responses are made by our trained staff of Chinese instructors in Beijing.

Reference

ChineseOn.net offers a comprehensive set of reference materials to all of our students for covering the finer details of the Chinese language. This includes learning guides, a Chinese-to-English dictionary, Chinese word lookups and Chinese grammar guides. *

News and Culture

All student members receive access to their own personalized portal sites featuring relevant news, a Chinese word-of-the-day, progress reports and a continuously growing number of services. Students also have access to members-only articles written by the ChineseOn.net staff regarding culture and life in China. Together, these sections help strengthen a student's understanding of China and its people. *
